Construction paper collage: a shape study
"Shapes & Supplies"

Any great artist trains his or her eye to break complex objects down to their most basic parts. In this project, students will do just that. First, they will practice by drawing objects they see around the art room using only basic shapes. This helps students learn to look at objects differently. Realizing basic shapes can be found in everything they wish to draw can make drawing complicated objects a more manageable task. Students continue to practice this skill by drawing, cutting, and assembling art supplies out of construction paper. In addition, students will begin to learn how overlapping objects and including a horizon line will help to create the illusion of depth in their art.
